Shakespeare in the Park
August 6 - August 31 - Wednesdays-Sundays @ 7:00 pm - Learn More.
Each summer, Bard fanatics watch their favorite works come to life at the historic Old Zoo in Griffith Park. For 15 years running, Independent Shakespeare Co. has put on a series of lively productions each week, inviting audiences to take a seat on the grass (read: bring a picnic blanket) and enjoy performances like this season’s headliner, early Shakespeare comedy Love’s Labour’s Lost, which will be followed by Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus. With construction of a permanent stage currently in process on the main lawn, this summer’s shows will again be held in the dell at the top of the Old Zoo—meaning available space is smaller, and although performances are still free, reservations are required.
Crafting Meet Up at The Gamble House
August 2nd 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Learn More.
Attention all crafters! The crafting meet-ups at the Gamble House are back on the first Saturday of the month, June through September, at noon! Bring a lawn chair or blanket and join us on the lawn under the big oak tree for an afternoon of crafting and socializing. We invite you to bring a portable project to work on—whether it’s knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, drawing, coloring, watercolor, scrapbooking, collage, or any other craft. This is a great opportunity to build community and inspire creativity through art and crafting.
Cat Con
August 2 - August 3 - Learn More.
Cat lovers, mark your calendars: CatCon 2025 returns to the Pasadena Convention Center on August 2–3 for a weekend of feline fun, community, and celebration. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the beloved event, which has become a must-attend for cat enthusiasts nationwide.
DIY Soil Remediation for Native Gardens
Saturday, August 9 · 10am - 1pm PDT - Learn More.
Join community soil scientists Lynn Fang, MS and Maggie Smart-McCabe in this hands-on workshop as we fill a customized blend of compost, microbes, or fungal mycelium into different types of mesh traps. When placed around your site, these ecological socks will help degrade and minimize contaminants from runoff water that has seeped into the ground.
Mindful Wildlife Walk & Talk w/ Pasadena Humane
August 16 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 am - Learn More.
This month’s walk will be co-led by Pasadena Humane’s Director of Wildlife Education and Services, Lauren Hamlett, and Chief Veterinarian, Dr. Maria Pyrdek. They will focus on their work in local wildlife rehabilitation, what to do if you find distressed wildlife, and how wildlife rehabilitation contributes positively to the overall health of our local ecosystems.
Attendees will observe and engage with native plants, practice some basic bird identification, and discuss how the things we see on the walk connect to wildlife health.
Echo Park Rising Music Festival
Thursday 8/16 – Sunday 8/19 - Learn More.
In its 8th year Echo Park Rising Music Festival is a three-day neighborhood event that focuses on the “music, creativity, diversity and small businesses of Echo Park” spread out at venues all over the neighborhood.
Wildfire Community Preparedness
Saturday, August 16 · 2 - 3:30pm PDT - Learn More.
Join special guest, Kat High, to learn how communities are responding and organizing to create wildfire resilient action plans. Kat is a native plant gardener who has lived in Topanga Canyon for over 40 years and is a participant in Topanga Coalition for Emergency Preparedness (TCEP) Neighborhood Network for Zone 7. Learn how neighborhood fire safe councils are created and how communities support and protect each other in the wildland-urban interface. Resources will be available.
