Why We Work By Referral

One of the questions we get asked often is: “Do you do much advertising?” The honest answer is no—and that’s by design. When Erin joined Mike in the business years ago, we had three young children at home and a big question to answer: How do we make this work in a way that’s sustainable for our family? Traditional advertising didn’t feel like the right fit. What mattered most was building something that could support our family while also keeping relationships at the center.

The solution we found was simple but powerful: working by referral.

Instead of pouring money into billboards or online ads, referrals allow us to grow a business rooted in trust. And over time, that choice has given us the freedom to focus less on marketing campaigns and more on the work we find truly meaningful—spending time with our community and creating spaces where people can come together. When you tell your friends, neighbors, or family about us, you’re not just helping us keep our business going, you’re ultimately helping other people with one of the biggest emotional and financial decisions in their lives, which is where they live.

This past weekend we hosted our Emergency Prep Workshop, and it was a perfect example of how referrals make this possible. Together with the support of some generous sponsors, we were able to provide:

  • Backpacks for each family to start their go-bags

  • Hand warmers, shelf-stable food, and emergency water packets

  • Whistles, flashlights, and notebooks + pens for communication

  • Emergency blankets and first aid kits for safety and warmth

We wanted to go beyond just talking about preparedness and give our neighbors the chance to actually take action—filling their bags and learning key skills together. The ability to create a space like this—where people can show up, learn, and walk away with something tangible—is only possible because of the trust and referrals you send our way.

This isn’t new for us. Fifteen of the thirty years we’ve been in real estate have been working by referral and we’ve hosted events like our House-It-Goings to check in with our clients and their homes, business mixers to spotlight local partners, The Grateful Shred for safe document disposal, Estate Planning Seminars and our Gratitude Pie Party that’s become a beloved tradition, crawfish boils, ice cream socials, pizza nights, and many more.

Each of these moments—big or small—represents time we get to spend with you. They are chances to slow down, share a laugh, learn something together, and strengthen the fabric of our community. We don’t take for granted the fact that we get to run our business this way. We’re deeply grateful to those who continue to introduce us to the people they care about. Your referrals don’t just help us—they help us give back.

If you know someone who’s thinking about buying or selling a home, or even just has questions about what’s next, we’d be honored to help.
